OUR HISTORY

Middlebury Actors Workshop began in the spring of 2001 when a small group of experienced actors got together to conduct an experiment in a communally run theater company. Two summer seasons consisting of six ten-minute plays each were performed in Middlebury to great acclaim. These early productions were produced at the A.R.T. black box theater at the Patricia Hannaford Career Center, and at the old un-renovated Town Hall Theater building.  Founding members included Melissa Lourie, Steve Small, Harry McEnerny, Jeanne Rogow, Shannon Bohler and Stephen O'Dwyer.

In 2003 Lourie became Artistic Director and the company added new members Karen Lefkoe & Cyrus Moore.  Since then, many of Vermont's finest actors have participated in M.A.W. productions.

In 2008, Middlebury Actors Workshop became a resident company of the newly restored Town Hall Theater, inaugurating the new space with an original adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac by company member Mike Kiernan.

In 2009, M.A.W. began producing two shows per year.

In 2017 we inaugurated The Cutting Edge Staged Play Reading Series, curated and directed by Rebecca Strum.  The Cutting Edge Series offers three contemporary, relevant, intelligent staged readings featuring top Vermont actors, followed by lively talk-backs each year, and has proven to be very popular with our audiences.

In 2020 we changed our name to Middlebury Acting Company.  We currently produce 3 full productions each season.
